Kent Anderson is a comparative lawyer specialising in Asia, whose fluency in Japanese had its beginnings in his tertiary studies. He joined the University of Adelaide in 2012 as Pro Vice-Chancellor (International). Previously he was Professor of Law and Asian Studies at Australian National University where he taught a mixture of law courses and advanced language courses, including coaching a moot arbitration and negotiation team which competed (and won) in Japanese. From 2007 to 2011 he was Director of the ANU Faculty of Asian Studies where over ten Asian languages were taught. He has an eclectic background, doing his tertiary studies in Japan, US, and UK. Kent first worked as a marketing manager with a US regional airline in Alaska, then as a practicing commercial lawyer in Hawaii, and subsequently joining academia as Associate Professor at Hokkaido University School of Law.
