Professor Marko Pavlyshyn is the Director of the Mykola Zerov Centre for Ukrainian Studies at Monash University’s School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics and co-ordinator of the Literary and Cultural Studies graduate research program at that university. At Monash he has held the positions of Head of the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics (2005-2010) and Director of the Centre for European Studies (2000-2005). He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. He played a key role in establishing Monash University’s Task Force on Learning and Usage of Languages Other Than English (2008-2009) and in the writing of its Report. He has held various roles in the Board of Studies and Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority’s structures for curriculum design and examination in the subject ‘Ukrainian’. He continues to be a practising language teacher. His present role and his experience, as well as his particular knowledge of the Slavic area, credential him well to contribute to the establishment of the Languages and Cultures Network for Australian Universities.
